BOCCIA EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

WHAT IS BOCCIA?

Active Future has been established to increase the likelihood of lifelong participation in movement. What we know is that by aged 16, 80% of children and young people have left movement and sport never to return again and we want to change this statistic and get more people playing.

Boccia (pronounced "bot-cha") is a Paralympic sport designed for athletes with physical disabilities but can be enjoyed by all students. It’s a target-based game that emphasizes strategy, precision, and teamwork. Boccia is non-contact and is typically played indoors on a flat surface.

  • Skill Development:

    • Enhances hand-eye coordination, focus, and strategic thinking.

    • Encourages teamwork and communication.

    Social and Emotional Growth:

    • Promotes fairness, patience, and resilience.

    • Builds confidence by offering an equal playing field.

    • Inclusion and Accessibility:

    • Adaptable for students of all abilities, including those with physical or learning disabilities.

    • Can be played seated, allowing participation from wheelchair users.

We are working with Boccia England to increase the exposure of the sport and would love to come and demonstrate this to your schools by providing some in school taster sessions.
